A great opportunity for the Spanish biotechnology sector
The Spanish Federation of Biotechnologists, together with the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (SEBiot), the Spanish Society of Microbiology (SEM) and the Spanish Association of Biotechnology Companies (ASEBIO) signed last May 2012 a statement sent to all the parliamentary groups of the Congress of Deputies, requesting that 2014 be declaredis commemorated as "Biotechnology Year in Spain".
This initiative has the following objectives:
The initiative was registered as a non-legislative motion in the Committee on Health and Human Services of the Congress of Deputies by the People's Party and adopted unanimously on May 8, 2013. With the approval of the State Budget on December 26, 2013, the commemoration was officially declared the enjoyment of the character of "exceptional public interest" Biotechnology. It also established the tax benefits for the commemoration, with exemptions for individuals and companies participating in the activities of the Year of Biotechnology.
From FEBiotec we hope that the commemoration fosters clear support to the biotech sector, as well as the commitment to promote biotechnology in Spain.
